The Waverly Farmers' Market has been a part of the community
since the 1970's and has supported local vendors in their efforts
to distribute locally grown and produced foods and crafts to
interested persons in the area. We are working to maintain our
presence as a vital and positive part of the Waverly, Iowa community.
Current Initiatives
The Waverly Farmers' Market is undertaking several projects
in an effort to improve our outreach to the community on behalf
of local foods and vendors. Many of these initiatives are below:
Recent History
As recently as 2007, the Waverly Farmers' Market has had multiple
locations depending on the day of the week. As recently as 2005,
the market was held on Mondays near Hy-Vee and Wednesdays and
Saturdays in the Collegetown Square parking lot. Increased use
of the Collegetown parking lot was making it difficult for both
the local businesses and the farmers' market to allocate the
space needed. In 2006, the City of Waverly granted permission
for a trial year on Saturdays at our current location. The market
went to a single market day on Tuesday at the Collegetown location.
The new location on 1st Avenue is a pleasant environment to
visit, with easy access for persons of all ages and abilities.
Parking is nearby and the space is sufficient to avoid vendor
crowding. We are looking forward to making this our permanent
home and using this location to expand our programming and further
integrate ourselves into the community as a positive member
group.
We are grateful for the support of the City
of Waverly, the Waverly
Police and Public
Works, the Waverly
Area Development Group and the nearby businesses (Qwest,
Keller
Furniture, Nuss
Chiropractic, Boveia
Law Office) for their willingness to work with us.
